Description:
The rich sound of the harpsichord The stunning "Italian Concerto" and the complete Partita! The latest volume in Banjaman Arar's Bach series, which has garnered attention both musically and instrumentally with each release, is now available in its eleventh collection. This time, the collection features Bach's clavier exercises published during his lifetime, including the rich "Italian Concerto" and all six "Partitas". The "Partitas" were a pioneering collection of Bach's publishing activities, and the keyboard techniques used are sophisticated and varied, with moments that sometimes remind one of Scarlatti or Rameau. The performance is convincing and powerful. For the first time in the series, Bach uses an English harpsichord made by Jacob Kirkman in 1757 for the pieces in which he uses a two-stage keyboard, and he also plays the "Italian Concerto" on this instrument. The "Italian Concerto" is also performed on this instrument, and the opulent sound is also heard. The recording was made at a museum using instruments from the collection of a cultural center in Provins, a medieval city in the Ile-de-France region of France. Comment by Allard (from the booklet) In this eleventh volume of the complete works, we present the keyboard works that Johann Sebastian Bach himself chose to publish, starting from 1726 onwards. The previous box set featured works primarily from the "Music Book of Anna Magdalena Bach" and included two partitas (BWV 827 and BWV 830) played on clavichord and other "Galant style" works. In this new recording, in addition to these two partitas, we have chosen to perform the partita from BWV 826 again on the magnificent 1740 Hieronymus Albrecht Hass harpsichord. This instrument has a three-tiered keyboard and offers a rich choice of timbres, allowing the work to be presented in a very orchestral sound. The six partitas BWV 825-830, completed in 1731, herald the publication of the Clavier Exercises, Part II in 1735. I therefore took the opportunity to restore on harpsichord an arrangement of Bach's imagined concertante work, in which one or more soloists can be heard confronting the orchestral ripieno. For the Clavier Exercises, Part 2, Bach himself specified the use of a two-tiered keyboard, so for the first time in this series, an English harpsichord by Jacob Kirkman, made in 1757, was chosen. This instrument has a clever pedal mechanism that facilitates the switching of stops and allows for supple changes of color.Performed on this instrument were the partitas BWV 825, 828, and 829, the "Italian Concerto" BWV 971, and the "French Overture" BWV 831. Also included are the four duets from BWV 802-805, which were performed on harpsichord prior to the organ version heard in the next volume, "Clavier Exercises, Part 3. Later, in 1741, Bach published a work entitled "Clavier Exercises from Arias and Variations for Harpsichord in Two Keys. This work is known today by the posthumous title "Goltberg Variations.
