Description:

Boogie Down Phnom Penh! Khmer original hip-hop drawn on the ground of Cambodia where music has been lost! Cambodian-reppresented KlapYaHandz(*) archives the precious and hot tunes from the early days of the music with translated lyrics and commentary. Dedicated to Hip-Hop lovers, Asian music lovers, and all those who want to relive the moment when original music is born! Following Juu & G. Jee's "New Luk Tun", which was nominated as the best album of the year at the !RIN AWARDS, OMK+M+Ku Zoku+STUDIO VOICE coalition sends this new album! This KYH is a label that has literally "Doin' Our Own Things" by scattering new seeds of hip-hop in Cambodia, where music disappeared due to the Khmer Rouge. While it is rare for hip-hop to focus on a non-US label, this film is an exciting document of the process of acceptance, transformation, and expansion of hip-hop in Cambodia. The film is a prehistory of KYH's breakthrough, and a selection of the early works that founder Sock "Cream" Visal created with his own hands. After fleeing Pol Pot and returning to his hometown of Phnom Penh after a long period of exile, Visal's goal was not simply to copy US music, but to create Khmer hip-hop that incorporated the Cambodian music that had once been so popular. He dared to sample singers such as Sin Sisamot and Lo Serey Sothea, who had already become nostalgic, and breathed life back into their music while establishing a style. It is rare in the world to find such a dynamic example of the hip-hop technique of quoting the past to create something fresh. What flows in this album is nothing but the individual's exuberant feelings that were once present in the 70's punk movement and 90's techno, and the precious moments that have renewed pop music. This compilation is a testament to the existence of the first generation of Khmer hip-hop, with legends such as Lynn, Phnom Penh Players, Khmer Rap Boys, Youngstars, and the still influential Risha. This album is also dedicated to the late Apin, the father of Khmer rap, who founded KYH with Visal but passed away before seeing his breakthrough today.
