Udagawa Sadao

Description:

A spacious time-space, spun out in a full and leisurely manner by the Bach viola da gamba spun by Sadao Udagawa, a gamba player. The music, which speaks quietly and passionately, is captured in rich sound. This is the second Bach collection born from the grand story that Mr. Udagawa believes "J.S. Bach wrote more works for viola da gamba, but they may have been lost in the course of music history. In the first volume (WAONCD-310), Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suites No. 2 and No. 5 (arranged for lute by Bach and further arranged by Mr. Udagawa) were performed on viola da gamba. In this second volume, J.S. Bach's Suites No. 1 and No. 3 for unaccompanied cello are arranged and performed. 13 of J.S. Bach's works for viola da gamba are extant. But in fact, "as a result of a tremendous fancy, the score of the Suite for viola da gamba solo arranged by Bach was presented by Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to King Friedrich Wilhelm II, and offered by the king to Folkley to be performed, I would like to recreate in French Rococo style a suite for unaccompanied viola da gamba that may have been lost in the annals of music history." is what the performer, Mr. Udagawa, wrote in his liner notes. Sadao Udagawa, who studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium, under Wieland Kuijken on viola da gamba, and has given a wide variety of performances in various places, has long been thinking about this album, which is the ultimate in musical pleasure. This is a paired-microphone stereo DSD recording using current-transmission microphones (Pure Records) that captures the full range of the music created by Mr. Udagawa's passionate spirit.
