This album was written at the peak of Jeff Lynne's career, and features pop and gorgeous songs, all of which are suitable for singles. The arrangements are also a highlight of the album, with the bold incorporation of strings and a variety of variations. Single hits such as "Turn to Stone," which reached No. 13 in the U.S., "Sweet Talkin' Woman" (No. 17), "Mr. Blue Sky" (No. 35), and "The End of Melancholy" (No. 75) pushed the album up to No. 4 on the charts. The jacket design was done by the late Japanese designer Shusei Nagaoka.
