This recording captures the June 30 concert at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany, from the 1980 “Tour Over Europe 1980”—which turned out to be their final tour. This is a soundboard recording of the June 30 concert at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany, from the 1980 *Tour Over Europe 1980*. It was the band’s first tour since the U.S. tour was cut short in 1977 following the death of Robert Plant’s son, and it effectively became their final tour. The band had originally intended to tour the United States, but Plant was reluctant to do so; as a compromise, they switched to a shorter European tour. This tour, originally scheduled for May 1980, was postponed by one month and began on June 17 in Dortmund, West Germany. For this tour, the band deliberately chose smaller venues and a simpler setting; the setlist was streamlined overall, omitting songs featuring lengthy improvisations. Given this, it is reasonable to view the tour as a sort of warm-up for the planned U.S. tour. A total of 14 shows were held, 10 of which took place in West Germany. At the Nuremberg show—two shows prior to this one in Frankfurt—John Bonham collapsed during the third song, forcing the concert to be canceled; however, he had recovered by this point. On the other hand, Jimmy Page’s playing lacked its usual sparkle throughout this tour. Yet the fact that many fans still appreciate this recording for what it is speaks to Page’s uniqueness. Plant’s vocal tone was also beginning to change. Was the choice of “Train Kept a-Rollin’” as the opening song a deliberate return to their roots? The encore setlist varied from day to day, but “Money” was the closing song only on this particular date. After this tour ended, Bonzo passed away during rehearsals for the U.S. tour, leading to the band’s breakup. This was the fifth-to-last show of the tour.
