Born in 1970 in Heerlen, the Netherlands, this album includes Bach's Unknown Fantasies performed by Berben. He studied organ and harpsichord in Den Haag and Amsterdam, and since 2000 has been harpsichordist with Musica Antiqua Cologne, and since its dissolution has been active as a soloist. Bach's Fantasias have survived as scores, but in truth, they are thought to be pieces for players to show off their brilliant virtuosity with a lot of improvisation during performance. For example, the "Chromatic Fantasy" has many different versions written by his pupils, and the more one studies it, the deeper one gets into the work. As mentioned above, this album includes some rarely performed pieces.(The deest after BWV refers to works discovered after Schmieder's catalog of BWV works was compiled, and is slightly different from Anhang, a posthumous manuscript, so to speak.) ) It is an intriguing piece in many ways.
