The Asassello Quartet, founded in 2000 by students of the chamber music class of Walter Levin, founder of the LaSalle String Quartet at the Basel Conservatory, has launched a project of complete works of Shostakovich's string quartets, as important as his symphonies, which he devoted his life to. This first release includes No. 8, the most important of Shostakovich's string quartets, and No. 7 through No. 13, composed over a 10-year period beginning in 1960.
