The "John Passion" is one of J.S. Bach's masterpieces. The first performance was given on April 7, 1724, on the first Good Friday after J.S. Bach became cantor (Thomas cantor/choral director), by the St. Thomas Church Choir (also known as St. Thomas Church Boys Choir, St. Thomas Church Choir Leipzig, etc.), a Leipzig boys choir with a history spanning some 800 years.
