The WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, conducted by Holliger, is currently recording Schumann's symphonies, concertos, and overtures for the Audite label in Germany. The fifth volume is a collection of concerto orchestral works with solo instruments, including an Introduction and Concerto Allegro for piano and strings, a Fantasy for violin, an Introduction and Allegro appassionato, and a small concerto for four horns and orchestra. The concerto includes some rarely performed pieces, but with soloists such as Kopatchinskaja and other attractive performers, the concerto is a must-attend. Kopatchinskaja, one of the world's most sought-after violinists, was born in Moldova to a father who was a master cimbalonist and a mother who was a violinist. After studying violin and composition in Vienna and Bern, she won the first prize at the Schelling International Competition in 2000 and the "Credit Suisse Group Young Artist Award" in 2002. He has performed with world-renowned orchestras under world-renowned conductors such as Jansons, Norrington, P. Järvi, and Nelsons. He also has a deep knowledge of chamber music, and his duo with Fazil Sai, in particular, captivates audiences with the music that emerges from their strong personalities. The Fantasy for Violin was written in 1853, the last year of Schumann's creative period.
