A New Age Interpretation Celebrating Mozart's 250th Anniversary; Newly Revised by Robert D. Levin! Mozart: The Great Mass is now available on CD! This release is for the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, which will be celebrated on January 27, 2006. This work was composed to thank God for his marriage to his wife Constanze, but was never completed. The work shows Mozart's substantial technique of counterpoint, with a wide range of rich structure in each section, and is written in a large scale, a trend not seen in his earlier works. The composer, Robert Levin, is also active as a fortepianoist and has arranged Mozart's Requiem and Concerto Symphony K.297b. Both of these arrangements are excellent, and each time I listen to them, I am impressed. Levin says that his concept is to keep revisions to a minimum and respect the history of the work.His skill is on full display as he adds Crucifixus, Agnus Dei, Dona nobis pacem, and other pieces to make what is normally a 50-minute work into a 76-minute long piece. Rilling's deep insight and understanding of the music has resulted in a highly accomplished performance.
