Francesca Venturi Ferriolo(viola), Salon Violette (historical instruments) *Recording: September 2022 & May 2023, Germany Sarah Levy, a late 18th~19th century harpsichordist and music collector, also known as Mendelssohn's great aunt,The daughter of a wealthy Jewish banker, she was Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's favorite harpsichordist and patron of the music performed in Berlin salons by the most important musicians of the early 19th century. Her important music collection, long thought lost after World War II, was discovered in Kiev in 1999 and returned to Germany in 2001, where it is now on public display. The collection contains an astonishing number of chamber works for viola and inspired the promising young Italian violist Francesca Venturi Ferriolo to explore this repertoire in more detail. With her period instrument ensemble Salon Violette, she has unearthed not only solo viola works with bass continuo, but also rare works for two and three violas (many of them world premiere recordings). Italian baroque viola player Francesca Venturi Ferriolo, co-founding member of the ancient music ensemble Il Quadro Animato, won the Serifa International Old Music Competition in 2015 and the 2016 Graun Brothers Competition in Brandenburg Special Prize of the Festival of Culture; in 2020 he will release his debut album "More than a Dull Lipieno! ~ Sonatas from the Baroque Period for Viola" (C00280) was released to critical acclaim.
