Magnificat BWV 243 was composed for the Christmas evening service the year Bach arrived in Leipzig. It is a magnificent work that is appropriate for the Christmas season. The organ arrangement of the Magnificat, "My heart praises the Lord," and the Mass BWV 235, composed of a Kyrie and Gloria, all adapted from cantatas, can be heard in a systematic manner, with each piece's relationship to the others considered.
