Description:
Katsaris and Theodorakis! 40 years in the making! 53 minutes of performance time! The first encounter between Cyprian Katsaris, a piano wizard of superb technique, and Mikis Theodorakis (1925-), a leading contemporary Greek composer at the age of 92, took place on March 1, 1978 at a benefit concert for refugees of the Cyprus conflict held at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. In the early 1980s, Katsaris, who had recorded Theodorakis' Piano Concerto No. 1 and other works, conceived of a 12- to 13-minute composition based on the soundtrack of the film "The Man Zorba," with music by the Greek giant, using the same technique that Liszt used to write his Hungarian Rhapsody. After many years and many twists and turns, Katsaris finally completed the "Grand Fantasy on 'Zorba the Man'", a work of 53 minutes (!!!) in length. This is a great work of collaboration between Katsaris and Theodorakis, completed about 40 years after their meeting in 1978 and the conception of the composition.Katsaris, who always surprises and shocks his audiences, will now unveil an oversized project that he has been warming up to for many years!
