Flamenco to Contemporary MusicThe Complete String Quartets of Mauricio SoteloThe Diotima Quartet, a renowned contemporary music ensemble, presents the complete works of the controversial Spanish composer Mauricio Sotelo. Mauricio Sotelo, born in 1961, studied under Luigi NONO and was greatly influenced by him. He is known for his style of incorporating flamenco wordplay into contemporary music, and his 2015 opera "El Pubrico" has been released in a performance by Teatro Real conducted by Elas Casado. As the title suggests, String Quartet No. 3 is dedicated to Diotima SQ, No. 2 to Artemis SQ, and No. 4 to Casals SQ, all of which have old flamenco rhythms and singing techniques as their source. Furthering the exploration of Falla, we cannot take our eyes off this novel creation, in which the songs of master singers are analyzed by computer, and based on the data, they are converted into modern music.
