Description:

Schubert: String Quartets No. 8 & No. 15 Included in this album Schubert(1797-1828):. String Quartet No. 15 in G major, D887/ String Quartet No. 8 in B-flat major, D112 Performed by Takács String Quartet Edward Dusinbehr (1st violin), Edward Dusinbehr (1st violin), Halmi Rose (2nd violin), Richard O'Neill (viola), András Fejer (cello)] Recorded May 20-23, 2023 at the Wyaston Estate Concert Hall (England) The young Schubert, still in his teens, wrote "String Quartet No. 8" during the short period from September 5 to 13, 1814. Surprisingly, he wrote that the first movement was completed in "four and a half hours. The first movement, however, was completed in "four and a half hours." The high degree of completion suggests that the work was meticulously planned and written like the works of Mozart, whom Schubert had admired. The last of Schubert's string quartets, "No. 15," was also written in only 11 days. This work was also written in only 11 days. The "No. 15" was never performed in its entirety during Schubert's lifetime. However, the ambitious style of the work deserves to be representative of his chamber music, and this one also shows Beethoven's influence. The Takács Quartet was founded in 1975 by Gabor Takács-Nagy, a student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and won first prize and the Critics' Prize at the Evian International String Quartet Competition in 1977, which brought them to international attention, In June 2020, world-renowned violist Richard O'Neill, a Grammy Award winner (+3 nominations), will join the quartet as a new member.
