Rachmaninoff at his best! The latest 2018 edition of Lugansky's mature album, he released 11 pieces on Erato in 2001, including Op.3-2, nicknamed "The Bells," and Op.23, consisting of 10 pieces, in 2001, and 17 years later, he has recorded a new album of all 24 pieces, including 13 pieces from Op.32. Rachmaninoff's preludes have his characteristic melodies and lyricism, but are generally difficult pieces. Lugansky's slow tempo and deliberate expression are convincing. The sharpness of his technique is exhilarating, and the full concert Steinway sounded great, allowing the listener to experience the true sound of the piano. It is impressive to see the remarkable growth and maturity that has been achieved since the previous recording. The popular "Bells" is also as great as Rachmaninoff's own performance.
