Antonello Manacorda

Description:

Antonello Manacorda and the Kammerakademie Potsdam (abbreviated as KAP [cup]) are currently hot in Europe. Manacorda was born in Turin and began his career as a violinist studying with the greats Klebers and Gulli. Since 2010, he has been the principal conductor of KAP, and has quickly built this chamber orchestra into one of Europe's leading institutions. His first visit to Japan as a conductor was in 2022, where he gave a dynamic interpretation of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 "Scotland" with the Kioi Chamber Orchestra, followed by a brilliant performance of Mahler No. 5 with the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra in April 2023. The performance by Manacorda and KAP employs period techniques for the string parts and ancient instruments for the brass and timpani, resulting in a performance that is full of vitality and songfulness. The exquisite articulation, especially in the string parts, is due to Manacorda's background as a violinist. After completing the performance and recording of the complete works of Schubert and Mendelssohn and establishing a high reputation, Manacorda ventures into the Beethoven cycle, which is the main focus of this recording, and is unique in its own right. The recordings were made at the Pierre Boulez Saal and Teldex Studios in Berlin, and some of the recordings were made at the Corona Disaster. Five symphonies (Nos. 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7) have already been released on three discs, and now four more (Nos. 3, 4, 8, and 9) will be added to the release as the complete symphony cycle. The 9th symphony features the choir of the Collegium Vocale 1704, founded by Václav Luks, a harpsichordist and conductor who has attracted much attention. When anyone decides to record Beethoven's complete symphonies, one has to start by asking, does the world really need them? So we waited: six or seven years ago, we played all nine of Beethoven's symphonies at Potsdam in one weekend, all at once. Working to perform such a huge body of work in such a relatively short period of time was a very important experience for all of us. This year, in our 20th year of existence, we felt we had matured enough to take on this Beethoven project.Antonello Manacorda (Sony Music) Included in the album Beethoven: "The Sopranos [CD1] Beethoven.
