In 1984, Willie Nelson was at the height of his popularity, having had 16 number one country hits in the previous ten years and appearing on the pop charts numerous times. He appeared in a series of hit movies and became one of the most famous artists of his time. He united fans across genres and generations, and his live shows became legendary. The February 23rd Budokan show was recorded and filmed for broadcast and released in Japan only as a laserdisc, but never as a soundtrack. Now, almost 40 years later, this live show is being re-released in a long-awaited re-release. The soundtrack has been lovingly remixed by Willie's longtime bandmate Mickey Raphael, and includes 29 songs on 2 CDs. Also included is a 27-song DVD with new audio mixes and high-resolution restored footage.The album includes his signature songs such as "Whiskey River," "Always On My Mind," "On the Road Again," and "Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," as well as great covers of "Me and Bobby McGee," Georgia On My Mind," and "Stardust.
