The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Description:

By the day The Jimi Hendrix Experience played a strong show at the Los Angeles Forum, the acoustics in concert halls had evolved dramatically from the days when the Beatles toured baseball fields. However, there were still many problems with audience control. In fact, between songs, Jimi would appeal to the audience not to run up to the stage. The number of policemen was not half bad, and Jimi even changed the lyrics of "Purple Smell" to "Scuse me while I kiss the policeman !" Jimi also sang "Spanish Castle Massacre. The song "Spanish Castle Magic" was dedicated to "all the plainclothes policemen and morons around here. He elevated each song to a meaningful event. He didn't try to organize his set around a single hit song. The approach taken at the LA Forum is typical of this attitude, blending well-known songs such as "Foxy Lady" with "Can't Live Today" from "Are You Experienced" and the original blues "Red House," which was unreleased in the US at this time. He also blended the original blues song "Red House," which had not been released in the US at that time. He said of the blues, "What is American soul? People want to know what is American soul. Many would answer, "Motown. But I think this is what American soul is all about. Not only that, but they started the concert with a cover of a totally unknown song called "Tax Free. The Swedish duo Hanson & Karlsson (Bo Hanson and Jan Karlsson) released this instrumental in 1967, and the Experience had met them at a concert in Stockholm the year before the LA Forum. Another highlight of the LA Forum, which was strongly Hendrix-like, was his own interpretation of the American national "Star Spangled Banner".They were playing an early version of that song, which would become the rock canon at Woodstock four months later, here. It's the song that has brainwashed us all our lives. Jimi's message was poignant at a time of political turmoil in the U.S. He closed his performance at the LA Forum with a stunning medley of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and "Sunshine of Your Love," which was followed by a rousing rendition of Cream's "Sunshine," which was followed by a rousing rendition of "The Exposure. Cream's "Sunshine~" was a favorite of the Experience and is perfect material to demonstrate their outstanding improvisational abilities live. (2/2)
