Based in Baltimore, London, and New York, The Passionate Ones is a cathartic 12-song work that can be described as a sermon, a cry from the darkness lurking in the final days of capitalism. It is a blueprint for building one's own altar on the site of the crumbling American Dream. First conceived in Los Angeles in late 2019, Norished by Time is a project born as a means for Marcus Brown to escape the monotony of his daily work and the crushing spirit of an increasingly corrupt world. Brown sublimated his highly personal and keenly observed vision into songwriting and created a one-of-a-kind musical universe.Behind it all is the rich and eclectic musical heritage of his hometown of Baltimore, where jazz, punk, indie, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B genres are vividly intermingled. The Passionate Ones explores themes of love, labor, existence, dreams, disillusionment, and hope through a metamodernist perspective. The film is also a contemporary American story that documents an artist's attempt to survive while pursuing his own passions and dreams, supporting his dependencies and vices in the process. The Passionate Ones is the latest in a blistering upward trajectory, as Norished by Time exploded onto the scene with their debut album, Erotic Probiotic 2, released on Scenic Route in 2023, and followed by the release of their second album, The Passionate Ones, in 2011, which was named one of Pitchfork's "Best Albums of the Year, It was named "Best New Music" by Pitchfork, as well as #5 on their list of the year's best albums. It also topped Gorilla vs Bear's annual best of list and received rave reviews from The Guardian, The FADER, Paste, and many other major media outlets.This momentum was further fueled by the EP Catching Chickens, released in 2024 on XL Recordings. Norished by Time was featured on the cover of CRACK Magazine, and the song "Hell of a Ride" was named one of the best tracks of the year by the magazine.
