The opera "Norma" is considered the best of the nine operas composed by Bellini. It is a soprano dramattico and a difficult piece requiring the technique of agilita. Giuditta Pasta, a famous soprano of the time, requested Bellini to write this piece, and it is said that Pasta had Bellini rewrite the "Pure Goddess" part nine times. The resulting opera, "Norma," sung by Pasta at the premiere at La Scala, was highly acclaimed by Verdi and praised by Wagner in later years. A love triangle of destiny awaits Norma, a priestess who has fallen in forbidden love with her country's general! How will she respond to her lover's betrayal? This moving masterpiece depicting a noble woman who has carried out her "love" as a woman and a mother is performed by Radvanovsky and DiDonato, the two great bel canto queens.
