Cheer-Accident

Description:

Formed in Chicago in 1981 by multi-instrumentalist Thymme Jones, the band has been active for over 40 years with an elusive and experimental sound that freely moves between art rock/alterna/math rock/recording. The band's guitarist/engineer throughout the 90's and Thymme's close friend Phil Bonnet (d. 1999), and Burt Bacharach (d. 1948), who Phil loved to listen to before his death, are represented on the album. This album pays homage to the popular music of Phil Bonnet (died in 1999) and Burt Bacharach (died in 2011), whom Phil loved to listen to. The production of this album, a collection of vocal oriented and "easy listening" style songs, has been in the planning stages since 1999, which is unusual for CHEER-ACCIDENT, which has been pursuing an exciting genre-crossing and genre-defying sound throughout its entire career (as evidenced on the album's title, "Easy Listening", which was released in 1999). The recording took place in '20 during the lockdown period. The album features lyrical chamber/ballad numbers blended with a taste of Herb Alpert (& The Tijuana Brass) and the ECM sound Thymme grew up listening to, as well as a variety of pop songs with trumpets and violins. The album is more personal and sentimental than any of his previous works.
