Nadezhda Vlaeva, who was praised by Lazar Berman as a "God-given talent", is a female pianist born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She made her Hyperion debut with Volume 10 of the Bach Piano Transcriptions series (CDA67873), and her collection of Sergei Bortkiewicz's piano works (CDA68118), which includes world premiere recordings, won MusicWeb International's " Vlaeva's third Hyperion release, which was selected as one of the "Recordings of the Year 2016. This is a collection of piano works by Bulgarian composer, pianist, and teacher Pancho Vladigerov (1899-1978), a professor of piano, chamber music, and composition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia (the conservatory that now bears his name) and considered the founder of the Bulgarian National Music School.In the "Six Exotic Exercises," with its Spanish, Bulgarian, Arabic, and Slavic melodies, and the "Ten Impressions," the work that won him his second Mendelssohn Prize, Vladigerov brings to life the rich idiom, exciting rhythms, and vividly depicts his pianistic challenges.
