A violin that mysteriously plays with hidden passion. A world of aesthetics and sensuality inspired by late Romantic literature, this is the seventh DG work by top violinist Lisa Batiashvili, born in Georgia in 1979, and a leading figure in Polish music in the first half of the 20th century, whose Violin Concerto No. 1 was composed in Ukraine during World War I by Szymanowski. No. 1, one of his masterpieces characterized by intense sensuality and Orientalism, was inspired by the poem "A Night in May" by the Symbolist poet Taddei Michinski. On the other hand, Chausson's fantastic "Poem," written in 1896, was conceived as a symphonic poem based on Turgenev's novel "Love's Triumphant Song," but the title was dropped and the popular piece was dedicated to Ysaÿe, who gave the premiere. The Philadelphia Orchestra, which gave the American premiere of Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1 in 1924, and its musical director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, performed the work together. Framing the hidden passions of Szymanowski and Chausson are the works of Franck and Debussy. Franck's masterpiece, the Violin Sonata, is a major work composed and dedicated as a wedding gift to violinist-composer Eugène Ysaÿe. The featured pianist is Giorgi Gigashvili, who has received a scholarship from a non-profit organization founded by Lisa Batiashvili that supports young artists living in Georgia.Debussy's "Beautiful Evening" is an arrangement of an early song composed by the young Debussy on a poem by Paul Bourget.
