The Monks Of Norcia

Description:

Chant by the Monks of the Holy Land of Benedictus Norcia, a town in the province of Perugia, Umbria, in central Italy. Benedictus, the founder of the Benedictine Order, and his twin sister Scholastica were born there in 480, and in the 8th century a chapel was built for pilgrims to the birthplace of St. Benedictus. Today, the monks live in the Monastery of St. Benedict, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman monastery. The Gregorian chants of the monks, which have been sung here for hundreds of years, as well as their own compositions of songs to Mary, are included here. The album is the result of a combination of Christopher Alder, a Grammy Award-winning producer, and Jonathan Stokes, an engineer. Universal Music/IMS
