Max Richter is a post-classical composer from Germany who has been gaining attention for his music "SLEEP," a post-classical fusion of beauty sound asleep to the human heart. This "Songs From Before" is his third full-length album released in 2006. Richter's music, which he first used the term "post-classical" the year before, is characterized by a beautiful fusion of cello, violin, and other strings, electronics, and minimalism (pattern music composed of small phrases). The music is also strikingly accompanied by a reading of text from a Haruki Murakami novel, which momentarily interrupts the music and is accompanied by a pensive sentimentality. Universal Music/IMS
