The Mean Clavier Works were recorded for DECCA. Turek started out as a virtuoso pianist, but was influenced by Wanda Landowska and began playing the harpsichord. Eventually, she became obsessed with playing Bach on the piano, exploring its possibilities and constructing her own unique image of Bach, and it is said that even Glenn Gould took a shine to her playing. Although Bach's mean rules are open to a variety of interpretations, Turek's performance shines out of all of them and has a charm that will almost certainly captivate anyone who hears it at least once. Her late recording of the "Goltberg Variations" (her sixth recording), made after her Bach had been reaffirmed, is a masterful performance backed by the expressive power that only a masterful player can possess.
