Description:

Kenny Barron & Mulgrew MillerThree Duo Concerts of the Artists Who Master Jazz PianoThree Duo Concerts of the Artists Who Master Jazz PianoSwingy, conversational performances with no subject matter/backdropsKenny Barron and Mulgrew Miller, two artists who have mastered jazz piano, have made a work. Kenny Barron, born in 1943, is now 76 years old. Mulgrew Miller, born in 1955, suffered a stroke in 2013 at the age of 57 and sadly never returned home, but his untimely death is constantly regretted and a certain reevaluation of his music is growing. This will literally be a record by two legendary pianists. The first concert was organized/produced by Jordi Sunol of International Jazz Productions and took place on August 7, 2005 at the Marciac Jazz Festival in France. This album includes that first concert and three concerts six years later, one in Geneva on May 12, 2011, and another in Zurich on May 14, 2011.Both artists face the traditional world of jazz head-on and hold the essential elements firmly in place, setting an example for the next generation. The music they perform is also developed to include the Great American Songbook, such as Rodgers & Hart, as well as the music of jazz legends such as Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Thelonious Monk. Each day is a royal performance, but the two inspirational musicians play together in a way that is comfortable to lose oneself in, and the more you face the world of sound, the more profound the performance becomes. The absence of the bass and drums is not felt because both players respond to the other's playing with a sense of swing in their bodies, but their performance, which develops freely without any sense of back and forth or master and servant, is like a conversation between two like-minded friends. There was no conflict, and the two musicians' performance was natural and engaging. At each concert, he also performed one solo piece at a time. Among them, Kenny Barron's performance on Disc 1, recorded at the 2005 concert, is noteworthy. Here, Baron performs the only original song on the album, "Song for Abdullah," which is dedicated to Abdullah Ibrahim and was also performed solo on the 1985 trio album "Scratch," which was released on LP. The duo has performed and toured together for the past six years, and later in 2012. In addition to their duo performances, Mulgrew has also given concerts with Eric Reed, Benny Green, and Italian virtuoso Dado Moroni, as well as two-piano duets, four-piano concerts, and more. Mulgrew has been in the news in recent years as an artist who hooked up with Derrick Hodge and Kareem Riggins, and it is interesting to see the range of his work, both in the appointment of such young artists and in his awareness of the jazz tradition.
