Benny Green, who has played with legends such as Art Blakey and Oscar Peterson and was a member of the legendary Jazz Messengers, has released a new album. Benny Green's first solo work in 20 years is now available. Born in 1963, Green joined Betty Carter's group at the age of 20 and played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers from 1987 to 1989. A master of bebop, post-bop, and swing styles, he studied jazz with the best musicians, including jazz greats Walter Bishop Jr., Oscar Peterson, and Art Blakey, and throughout his career established himself as one of the finest piano players. Peterson even paid him the highest praise, calling him "his true heir. When the Corona disaster prevented him from touring with his trio, he posted many musings about music and life on Facebook, and also began to practice solo pieces intensively.This was a good opportunity for him to reevaluate his goals and approach to music, which led to the creation of this album. This is his first solo album in 20 years since "Green's Blues (Telarc, 2001)," and he has matured to focus more on respecting the melody, and less on the flamboyant technique of the previous album. The album opens with James Williams' "Soulful Mr. Timmons," a song that inspired him to become a disciple of Art Blakey. T Maestro," a tribute to Duke Ellington, and the original "Jackie MacLean," make this a full-length solo album dedicated to the masters of jazz.
