Glitterbeat, a world music label proudly based in Germany, has been releasing the "Hidden Music" series on a regular basis. This is the tenth in the series, which compiles rare field recordings made by music producer Ian Brennan during his travels in remote parts of the world. This time, the focus is on the traditional music of Djibouti, a small country in East Africa that is almost unknown in Japan. In this album, she plays songs with traditional melodies backed by a simple accompaniment of only an acoustic guitar, calabash (gourd percussion instrument), and sometimes hand claps, with a strong singing style that is unique to her. She also shows her socialist side here, singing an impromptu a capella song that laments the women of Djibouti who are not allowed to marry freely.
