The electro-pop duo Erasure has been a firm favorite since the 1980s. They will release a remastered and expanded edition of their fifth studio album, CHORUS, released in 1991, on February 14, 2020. Released as a 3-CD set in hardcover book-style packaging, CD1 features the latest 2019 remastering of the original. And CD2 features B-sides of singles, remixes, and rarities. These include new remixes by Vince Clarke, Robbie Riviera, Glenn Nichols, Minute Taker, and others, as well as KROQ session material originally only included on the promotional cassette and released exclusively through the band's fan club, Erasure Information Service, a fan club for the band. CD3 contains live material from the band's Phantasmagorical Entertainment Tour, described by the New York Times as "delightfully subversive," from their 1992 performance at the Manchester Apollo. The booklet also includes album notes with interviews with Erasure members Vince Clark and Andy Bell and MUTE label founder Daniel Miller.He talks about episodes related to the production process, including the songwriting and recording of the album. For example, Vince explains the two basic rules of making an album: 1) use only analog synths, and 2) use a single melody for every single line of the song, and do not use chords. No chords. Vince believed that these two rules would create a distinctive sound. Andy Bell also said that the lyrics were inspired by CS Lewis, Jean Cocteau, and a family vacation in Great Yarmouth, England. CHORUS" is Erasure's third consecutive No. 1 album in the UK, and has spawned four singles, including the album's title track, "Love To Hate You," "Am I Right," and "Breath Of Life. The album, which was also the first entry in the Top 40 of the U.S. album chart, has been gorgeously reborn 30 years after its release.
