A powerful trio formation with George Coleman (ts) and Bobby Durham (ds). Guest vocalist Ernie Andrews joins on three songs. This album was recorded at the Famous Ballroom in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 20, 1972, and is the first release. Born in Philadelphia, Shirley Scott was influenced by blues and gospel in the late 1950s and became popular in the 1960s when she incorporated soul jazz into her playing. She has also performed with countless jazz giants, including Stanley Tallentine, Oliver Nelson, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Clark Terry, and Kenny Burrell, and has numerous albums on Prestige, Impulse, Atlantic, and others.The album features 10 songs, starting with "Impressions" featuring George Coleman's hot saxophone, reminiscent of Coltrane, followed by "Never Can Say Goodbye," which was a big hit for the Jackson 5 a year before this recording, and ending with a blues and pop number featuring Ernie Andrews' vocals. The album closes with a number featuring the vocals of Ernie Andrews, who is also a blues and pop singer. The album is filled with well-known standards and the groove of the audience at the time, making it a great listening experience. Remastered from the original tape reel. The English-language booklet includes rare photos by Raymond Ross, including Los Angeles journalists A. Scott Galloway and Don Schlitten.
