Christophe Croiset's Rachmaninoff! The new album by Christophe Croiset, a Swiss cellist born in 1993 who made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 17 in New York and has been active internationally since then, is a trio with Andrei Baranov and others. This Rachmaninoff album features two powerful Russian musicians, Andrei Baranov, winner of the 2012 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, and Alexander Panfilov, who also performed with him on his previous Russian album (AV2410)! The entire program was written before 1917, when Rachmaninoff left Russia for the U.S. after the Revolution, and includes the single movement piano trio "Trio of Sorrows" (No. 1), which the genius wrote in 1892 when he was only 18 years old, and the "Sadness Trio" (No. 2), written a year later, before the death of his teacher and friend The second work, "Trio of Sorrows" (Piano Trio No. 2), was written before Tchaikovsky's death and dedicated to him. Both trios are filled with an atmosphere of dense nostalgia and melancholy, despite the composer's youth.As an encore piece, Alexander Panfilov will arrange Rachmaninoff's romantic songs for piano trio (two from "12 Romances, Op.21," written during his honeymoon, and two from "6 Romances, Op.38"), and finally, Tchaikovsky's arrangement of "Autumn Song" from "The Four Seasons," Op.37a, a collection of solo piano pieces.
