The cantata "St. Nicholas" from 1948 is a 50-minute work, and although the 1955 recording by Pears and the composer himself is considered the definitive recording, the pipe organ's magnificent sound and the composer's thick chorus make the recording a true masterpiece. The magnificent sound of the pipe organ and the thick chorus were the true value of the recording. The disc contains two discs, one is a standard 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo CD, and the other is a dual-layer/2.0 stereo & multi-channel 5.1 surround SACD. The acoustics of the chapel at King's College Cambridge are superb, and the chorus is at its best. St. Nicholas" is the name of Santa Claus, and this moving work depicts his life. It is a perfect work for Christmas.Britten's religious choral works are all hymn-like and beautiful, but "Rejoice in the Lamb of God" offers a glimpse of Britten's unique and frightening darkness.
