Description:

Karajan, Mutter, and the Berliner Philharmoniker: Historic Masterpieces by Three Classical Music Superstars Released on Blu-ray! The historic performance by Karajan, Mutter, and the Berlin Philharmonic, three superstars of the classical music world, is now available on Blu-ray. Anne-Sophie Mutter was discovered by Karajan at the age of 13 and made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and among her many performances with Karajan, this Blu-ray release features live footage from 1984 and 1987. The Beethoven Violin Concerto was recorded at the Philharmonie in Berlin in February 1984, when Mutter was 21 years old. This performance was previously released as a recording (recorded in 1979) and was also the program of their 1981 tour of Japan. Mutter's steady technique, Karajan's unwavering conducting, and the orchestra's low center of gravity make for a memorable performance. In December of the same year, Mutter also appeared as soloist at the annual Gilvester Concert. This all-Bach program commemorated the upcoming 300th anniversary of Bach's birth. This is a video of a spectacular night filled with a celebratory mood. And in this video from October 1987, Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" performed at the inauguration concert of the Kammer Musiksaal (Chamber Music Hall) built at the Berlin Philharmonic's home base, the Philharmonie. In 1972, Karajan recorded "The Four Seasons" with Michel Schwalbe, concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic and its golden age, as the soloist. These concert films can be seen as a trace of Karajan's establishment of a new medium for visualizing music, which he did throughout his career. King International
