The festival, which began in 1946 and is financed by the wealthy citizens of Bregenz, features four weeks of spectacular operas that combine traditional performing arts with state-of-the-art technology in the Theatre on the Lake, which is set on Lake Constance, as well as in adjacent halls. Hernani," Verdi's early masterpiece based on Victor Hugo's play. Hernani, the leader of the rebellion, plots revenge when he learns that King Don Carlo of Spain has murdered his father; both men love Elvira, and even the old Grand Duke Silva wants to take his niece Elvira as his bride. The opera is full of gripping arias, moving choral singing, and charming ensemble singing, and it is not often performed because it requires an outstanding cast for the four roles of soprano, tenor, baritone, and bass.In the title role in this production is Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu, who made his Salzburg Festival debut in 2004 as the youngest soloist. Placido Domingo also praised him highly, and he is a star of the future opera world. Don Carlo is played by Franco Vassallo, one of the leading baritones of our time. The role of Silva is played by Croatian-born Goran Jurić. Elvira is played by Guan Chun Yu, a Chinese soprano who has performed in theaters around the world. The lineup is full of some of the finest singers active in the opera world in recent years. The production will be directed by Enrique Mazzola, a conductor from Italy who is particularly fond of bel canto operas. The production will be directed by Lotte de Beer, who will assume the position of artistic director of the Vienna Volksoper in September 2022. She is a talented director who studied under the brilliant director Peter Konwitschny. The battle scenes are choreographed by Lan Arthur Brown, and the elaborate production evokes the 16th century.
