A Mystical World of Prayer Created with Unobtrusive MaterialsKalliope Tupaki is a female composer born in Piraeus, Greece in 1963. After studying at the Elenikon Conservatory in Athens, she went to the Netherlands to study with Louis Andriessen. She has published more than 70 works, ranging from solo to orchestral instrumental works, operas, and ballets. The "Triptikon" has a gentle feel with its materials such as glissandos with strings, sequential progression of scales with changing tones, and chords with gently changing resonance. The second piece, accompanied by a clarinet song, has a great deal of uplift toward the center, but overall the work makes lean use of understated material to create a mystical, religious world that resembles a medieval prayer.
