Giovanna d'Arco" is the Italian reading of "Jeanne d'Arc," a name everyone knows. It is the story of a young girl who receives a revelation from God, fights for France, and finally loses her life. Verdi (1813-1901) used this subject for his seventh opera, and the story is a rather human one, involving the intense patriotism that Verdi liked, the love between the king and Darco, and the conflict with his father Giacomo, with Darco dying in battle instead of being burned at the stake in the end. The story is a very human one, with Darco dying in battle rather than being burned at the stake in the end. King Carlo VII plays a key role in the story. Here, the up-and-coming tenor Jean-François Bolas, who made his Met debut in 2014 as Kaufmann's understudy, sings beautifully.
