Buxtehude was the greatest composer of church cantatas in Baroque Germany and the greatest master of the North German organ school. The famous Brindorf has released a complete collection of his organ works on the dacapo label (8.206005), but this time he changes his perspective a bit and presents the religious works of Buxtehude and his surrounding composers in a performance by Paul Hillier and Theatre of Voices. This time, however, we will take a different perspective and present the religious works of Buxtehude and the surrounding composers, performed by Paul Hillier and Theater of Voices. This is a fascinating piece that shows how much the influence of his predecessors Tunder and Förster, his pupils Bruns and Geist, and others active in the 17th and early 18th centuries interacted with each other.
