Janacek's "In the Shadow of the Grass Lane" played by a young Italian virtuoso! A collection of Janacek's works played by Gianluigi Daniele, a pianist from Campobasso, Italy. Daniele studied at the Conservatory of Pelosi and the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, and has performed in Italy and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. He has won numerous prizes in competitions, including third prize at the London International Music Competition, second prize at the Carlos & Sofia International Piano Competition, second prize at the Medici International Music Competition, and the "Best Performance of a Domenico Scarlatti Sonata" at the Sergio Cafaro International Competition. In this album, he presents "In the Shadow of the Grass," a lament for his beloved daughter Olga, who died prematurely and was originally conceived for the Harmonium. In the Mist" was composed during a difficult period in Janacek's life, when his daughter Olga died and his many operas were rejected by the Prague Opera House. Three works by the Czech composer Janacek are featured in Daniele's repertoire of 20th century works: the sonata "On the Streets, October 1, 1905," which expresses all the pain of the atrocities committed in his occupied homeland.
