The improvisations consist of four pieces each in Op. 90 and Op. 142. Each piece is a masterpiece by Schubert, filled with lyrical beauty and full of individuality. Brautigam, who studied under Rudolf Serkin, specializes in works from the Classical and early Romantic periods, and his performance of Schubert, the pioneer of Romanticism, is highly anticipated. Brautigam has performed and recorded keyboard works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. His Schubert is a masterpiece. Brautigam's natural approach shines through in this performance, and the warm tones of the fortepiano reach the listener's heart.
