Masumi Nagasawa is coming to BIS! The Splendid World of Spohr on Period InstrumentsLouis Spohr (1784-1859) was a virtuoso violinist and composed many violin works, including a concerto. His beloved wife was also a harpist, so he composed a duet for harp and violin to perform with her. The harp is often treated as the main character rather than an accompaniment. Three of the most important of these pieces are included here. The second movement of Sonata in D major, Op. 114, is a potpourri from Mozart's "The Magic Flute," with a series of well-known melodies. The violin also uses the harp's original period instrument. The harp is a single action harp of 1815, made by Nadelmann, a favorite of Marie Antoinette, who loved the harp. It is played by Masumi Nagasawa. This is the first appearance of Masumi Nagasawa on BIS, although she has released many albums in Japan in the past.
