Weinberg's masterpiece SACD hybrid disc filled with fiery fury. Linus Ross has recorded all of Weinberg's violin works, both concerto works and those with piano accompaniment. Weinberg has recorded all three of Weinberg's unaccompanied violin sonatas. Weinberg's unaccompanied violin sonatas were written after 1964, when the Soviet regime was replaced by Brezhnev and the dark days of Stalin's reign were over, but these three sonatas are full of severe tension and angry expressions. In between, one arrangement for violin and piano by Harry Glickman of Shostakovich's early piano piece, "Three Fantastic Dances," provides a respite for the soul. No. 2, written in 1967, consists of seven parts and is tremendously technically demanding, requiring more than Bartók's Sonata for Solo Violin. No. 3 is an odd work from 1979, with a single movement for only one violin, yet it takes 27 minutes to play.Linus Ross, born in 1977 in Ravensburg, Germany, is also dedicated to the discovery of buried works, and this album is technically and contentually challenging among Weinberg's violin pieces, creating a world that only Ross could realize.
