This 5-CD collection of previously unreleased material from the 1970-74 Vertigo period by Ian Matthews, a British singer/songwriter who has produced masterpieces in various capacities, including Fairport Convention, Matthews Southern Comfort, Plainsong, and as a solo artist. Solo in the early 1970s The 5CD set includes three albums produced by Vertigo Records during his solo career in the early 1970s, remastered in 2024, and live recordings from the same period, including 37 previously unreleased recordings. Among them is a live recording made in 1971 at the Bitter End in New York City with Andy Roberts, Bobby Longa, and Richard Thompson, who later became members of Plainsong. The album also includes songs from the Vertigo era recorded live in Paris, a live version of the first solo album recorded during an 18-day tour in the Netherlands in 2003, and songs from the now long out-of-print "Notebook Series".
