Description:
Anastasia Nikolaevna, the fourth daughter of the last Russian emperor, Nicholas II, was placed under house arrest with her family during the February Revolution of 1917 and was eventually shot...supposedly...but then the theory that she survived emerged and several "Anastasias" appeared. However, later, there was a theory that "she is alive" and several "Anastasia" appeared. Of these, Anna Anderson was the one most suspected of being the "real Anastasia. She became Anastasia in all aspects, and those around her praised her. The British choreographer Macmillan created a fantastic ballet out of this series of upheavals. Unfortunately, in 1967, when he presented this ballet after many twists and turns, there was no such thing as DNA testing, and it was impossible to prove who Anderson was (today, it is tentatively concluded that she was not Anastasia). In Macmillan's ballet, Anastasia and Anna are danced by the same person, ending with the tragedy of Anna's madness. The contrast between the innocent Anastasia in the first half and the ghastly Anna in the second half is wonderful, and Nunez's light dancing as Kuchesinskaya, the mistress of Nicholas II, is also stunning.
