John Harbison is a 1987 Pulitzer Prize-winning composer. He has published over 300 works, including operas and choral works, and has received numerous commissions from major American music institutions, including "The Great Gatsby," commissioned by James Levine on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera House. This album contains piano pieces from the 1980s to the present, including world premiere recordings. The album includes the meditative "Nocturne," the technical "Gatsby Etude" adapted from the aforementioned "The Great Gatsby," "Four More Occasional Pieces" written for people associated with him, and "The Gatsby Etude" by Leonard Stein, who was music director of the Arnold Schomburg Institute at the University of Southern California until his death in 2004. Leonard Stein Anagrams," based on a posthumous manuscript by Leonard Stein, who passed away in 2004 after serving as director of music at the University of Southern California's Arnold Schoenberg Institute.
