While an outstanding violinist in his youth, Louis Spohr was appointed as the director of the court music of Gouda, and later became the conductor of the Theater an der Wien, and then the director of the Frankfurt Opera House. Of his 10 symphonies (the 10th is unfinished), this album includes two symphonies from the latter half of his career: the groundbreaking 7th, which uses two orchestras and depicts the "conflict" that occurs in each part of the orchestra, and the 10th, which is a work for violin and piano. The album includes two symphonies from the latter half of his career: the groundbreaking No. 7, which depicts the "conflict" that occurs in each part using two orchestras, and the grand No. 8, which foreshadows Brahms' Romantic style.
