Matthew Taylor is a British composer. His music "combines traditional forms with words that speak to the modern age," drawing on the classical tradition that stretches back to Beethoven and Haydn, but with the influence of Sibelius and Nielsen in a modern guise. The album includes the Sixth Symphony, composed in memory of Malcolm Arnold, who celebrated his 100th birthday in 2021, as well as three concerto works. The Oboe Concerto is written in a unique arrangement with two chor anglais and strings providing accompaniment, and the Clarinet Concerto opens with a melody similar to that of Brahms' Quintet. The Violin Concerto, which uses jazz rhythms, is a short but cohesive piece. All works are conducted by Taylor himself, with soloists he trusts. Naxos Japan
