Hoket (hochetus = etymological meaning "hiccup") is a technique used in medieval Europe in which several performers would make verbal sounds to each other when the other did not and weave a single rhythmic or melodic line in a complementary manner. For this album, O'Reilly, intrigued by this method and through the research of Albert Bregman, a researcher on auditory scene analysis, and her own experiments on hearing and perception, first wrote the piece on the computer and then actually sang the two parts herself. Although only this recording exists today, the piece was actually written with the intention of being sung by two performers or performed in collaboration with electronics. Naxos Japan
