The new rock band, Horsegirls, is celebrating the release of their newest album with a limited special price version of their first album. Horsegirls is the new generation of US alternative rock band consisting of Nora Chen (g/vo), Penelope Lowenstein (g/vo), and Gigi Reese (ds). The three met through a youth arts program in Chicago and started playing in their own underground rock scene rooted in a DIY spirit. After releasing a single and an EP, they signed with the prestigious Matador label, which also includes Yo La Tengo, a band they themselves profess to be fans of. For their debut album, "Versions of Modern Performance," the band invited John Agnello, who has worked with Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth, as co-producer, and recorded the album at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio. The recording was done at Electric Audio owned by Steve Albini. The warm roar of shoegaze, the stripped-down hooks and rhythms of post-punk, and the love for the alterna of the 80s and 90s resonate in the listener.
